HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON MDT SUNDAY

* WHAT…West winds 35 to 55 mph with gusts up to 90 mph expected, strongest tonight. Localized gusts may exceed 100 mph in wind prone areas in and immediately adjacent to the foothills.

* WHERE…Rocky Mountain National Park and the Medicine Bow Range, The Mountains of Summit County, the Mosquito Range, and the Indian
Peaks, The Northern Front Range Foothills, The Southern Front Range Foothills, South Park, Fort Collins, and Boulder and the western suburbs of Denver.

* WHEN…Until noon MDT Sunday.

* IMPACTS…Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Power outages are expected. Outdoor activities will be hazardous due to flying debris. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Recommended Actions 

Avoid windows. Watch for falling debris and tree limbs. Use caution if you must drive. Avoid driving high profile or lightweight vehicles during the strongest winds.”  

Xcel Energy is planning to shut down power to a significant portion of the City of Boulder and western areas.  This will affect approximately 134,000 residents, and will affect thousands of BHP residents.  As a result, your heat and electricity will be shut down in your home.   

BHP maintenance will not be responding to these power outages, as they are being initiated proactively by Xcel Energy beginning sometime this afternoon after 3:00pm, and cannot be addressed via emergency work orders.   

Please prepare your household for this event by locating flashlights, first aid kits, charging your computers and cell phones, and taking care of any urgent needs you have for food.  Your water will continue to work.  However, your electricity and heat will not and your refrigerator will not be operational.  Our staff will provide additional communications as we emerge from the High Wind warnings and any damage that occurs can be assessed.  Please stay safe, avoid windows, be mindful of potential branches falling and power lines that may be down.  If you have personal items that are outside, please secure them or bring them indoors.
