Apartment Move-Out Tips

Our move-out inspection crew has assembled this checklist to help residents leave their apartments in great shape for final inspection and help facilitate a full security deposit refund.

Move-Out Checklist:

  • An official “Notice to Vacate (NTV)” form has been properly submitted at least 30 days prior to moving out.
  • There is no damage to the premises beyond normal wear and tear.
  • The following items are fully addressed –

WALLS:

  • Brush down all cobwebs.
  • If paint is washable, wash walls (to find out, please contact BHP Maintenance at workorder@boulderhousing.org or 720-564-4620).
  • Leave walls and switch plate covers clean and free from fingerprints.
  • Do not remove any screws, nails, etc., used to hang pictures, etc.
  • Dust the top edge of drapery rods, air vents, registers, molding, door casings and light shades.
  • Ensure doors are free from dust, fingerprints, etc.

FLOORS (including closets):

  • Vacuum carpet thoroughly.
  • Professionally clean your carpet through one of the following methods:
    • Professionally cleaned by a BHP contractor; or
    • If a resident chooses to hire their own third-party professional carpet cleaner, they must provide a copy of their receipt to their Property Manager (to avoid getting charged for cleaning).
    • All residents will be charged to steam-clean their carpet if you do not provide a receipt for professional cleaning at the time of move-out.
  • Scrub linoleum clean and remove all old wax. (Fresh wax is not necessary.)
  • Sweep balcony, patio, and exterior storage rooms, as applicable.

WINDOWS:

  • Wash inside and outside of 1st floor windows.
  • Wash inside (only) of 2nd floor windows.
  • Wipe the ledges and make sure the tracks are clean.
  • Keep original drapes or mini blinds hanging, and make sure they are clean.

CLOSETS:

  • Vacuum carpets, and sweep and damp-mop floors, as applicable.
  • Wipe all shelves.
  • Wipe down closet doors so that there is no dust, fingerprints, smudges, streaks, etc.

KITCHEN:

  • Clean the entire oven, range, and range hood.
  • Scrub stove drip pans so that they are shiny or replace them.
  • Clean and wipe dry the inside of all cupboards and drawers so that they are free from fingerprints, food, streaks, etc.
  • Defrost refrigerator and clean inside, outside, top, behind, and underneath the apartment home. Please do not unplug or turn off the refrigerator or freezer.
  • Clean counters, sink, etc.

BATH:

  • Clean toilet(s), sink(s) and tub(s) inside and out, and make sure the chrome is shiny.
  • Keep shower stall free from water, mildew, and soap build-up.
  • Clean medicine cabinet, inside and out.
  • Clean and wipe dry the inside of all cupboards and drawers so that they are free from fingerprints, debris, streaks, etc.
  • Clean linen closet in the bath or hall (if applicable) and wipe down closet doors so that there is no dust, fingerprints, smudges, streaks, etc.
  • Sweep, mop, and remove old wax from the floors.

Please note: BHP will allow each resident, upon move-out, the first hour of cleaning free. Thereafter, the resident will be charged according to the Standard Charges Table. The table can be found in the Community Policies Lease Addendum in the resident Lease or can be requested from Maintenance or Property Management.
