A partnership with the Boulder Public Library (BPL) and the National Book Foundation, Boulder Housing Partners celebrated our 5th year of Book Rich Environments (BRE) events in 2021. BRE connects families with free books, programming, and vital literary resources offered by public libraries and local community partners.
“Since the pandemic, we are more confident than ever that having annual opportunities for neighbors to come together for celebrations, meals, and book-giveaways are such important elements to nurture connectedness and neighborhood networks,” said Amanda Maya Dickson, Resident Services Program Manager.
Community events were held this year at BPL’s Meadows Public Library branch, Broadway East apartment community, and during BHP’s and Impact on Education’s Summer Shuffle literacy program. Events featured bilingual books for children; information & local resources that support education, nutrition, and healthy living; and story-times, healthy food, dance performances, and crafts.
More than 1,500 age-appropriate books have been provided to over 300 children ages 3 to 18 in ten apartment communities this year.
